look up request - George Butler born abt 1803 Darlaston

Please can anyone help? I am trying to trace birth and marriage records for George Butler b. 1803 approx.

I have so far
1841 census - Darlaston;1851 census - Darlaston; 1861 census - Darlaston; 1871 census - Darlaston

George Butler b1802/3 Darlaston, married to Mary b.1801/4 Wolverhampton
-children... Sarah b1830, George b1836, Joseph b1841, Mary b1843, Moses b1845

I am looking for any information on George's birth and his parents & his marriage to Mary to try to trace her line.


Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Dawn, there are a couple of baptisms at St Lawrence Darlaston for a George Butler:-

10.12.1797 to John and Sarah
14.11.1810 to George and Ann

A couple of Marriages at All Saints West Bromwich

George Butler and Mary Butler 1.3.1830
George Butler and Mary Horton 26.12.1836

What ages was George on the Census's you have?

on the 41 date of birth estimated 1806, his wife mary is the same
on the 51    "     "    "         "           1803, his wife mary 1804
on the 61    "     "    "         "           1803, his wife mary 1806
on the 71    "     "    "         "           1802, his wife mary 1801

their eldest child was sarah who was born in 1830

... if it gives both surnames the same in a marriage record do you know if that mean the bride did have the same name or could she have been previously married (or maybe even cousins!).
I really appreciate the help on this as this branch of the family is one of the main ones which has also sent me around in circles.

Thank you so much for that I will have to try and get to the records office and see if I can get any more details, there is a good possiblity that it could be that one. It is puzzling about the surnames being the same.

Donna, I have just noticed on the details Mary Butler was a Widdow at the time of her marriage to George. Now that clears up the matching surnames... but now makes me wonder was George a Brother in Law to her late husband.
I know there used to be a law which prevented a Brother from marrying his sister in law after his brothers death but I can't remember when it was changed.

how about sending for Moses Birth cert

and when you have Mary maiden name you could find the 1st marriage and see if George and Mary first husband where cousins but their was a lot of Butler from that area
