Harper in 1861 Census
« on: Tuesday 16 March 10 14:55 GMT (UK) »
Could some kind person help me find the Harper family, in 1861. I have them in Middlesex in 1851, then they disappear.

William Harper – head – 35(1816) – Gardener – Born Watford
Ann Harper – wife – 30(1821) – born Stepney
Ann Harper – daughter – 2(1848) – born Camden Town
Will Harper – son – 1 – born Harrow Road

The daughter married in Cheltenham, in 1869.

Hi

Yes sadly many streets are lost from the London 1861 census. I am in the same boat as my ancestors are missing from the 1861 census. I knew where they would have lived but the street is missing.

Have you found them on the 1871 census?

Ben

I know that Anne Harper had maried in 1869, in Cheltenham, to John McKennedy.
Not sure where her parents/brother were, in 1871

Hi there.

This family emigrated to Australia around 1852. I haven't been able to find the ship, but I have found them recorded in Melbourne. Sadly, there's no mention of Ann (born 1848), the daughter. I'd assumed she died during the voyage. Ann (nee Hughes) died in Melbourne on the 24th of May 1853. The following September William brought his two sons William (born abt 1850 - later known as Charles William) and Robert (born Aug 1851), to Hobart Town in Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania). They travelled on the Emma Prescott from Melbourne to Hobart. William Snr was my 3xgreat grandfather, and is buried here in Hobart, Tasmania. I am descended from Charles William.

I hope this helps!
Cheers :-)
