Officially they shouldn't, but they do, because people (wrongly) included people who were away from home on the night of the census, who would normally be at home, and they were (correctly) entered again by the people who they were staying with.

yes they can...my gt grandfather is on the 1901 census at his house,,,and also at his mothers....my grandfather is on the 1911 census in 2 different countries !!!!  the English and Irish...so it is possible  ;)

My grandmother appears twice in the same census- once at home with her parents but also in grandparents' household. Her cousin appears three times in same census (each time with wife and child)!
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

You will frequently find that when the licensee of a public house did not normally live there because the actual running was left to someone else he will be recorded in the census at the pub as well as at his normal home.

I have two cases of this in my family which I suspect occurred for some reason associated with the licensing laws.
