GR: SUPER Hot Matches

NEW Super Hot Matches are amazingly clever - they look in other Genes Reunited members' family trees to find a person whose name, year of birth and parents match a relation in your tree. This gives you stronger matches than ever before with other Genes Reunited members and helps you make new connections and discover more ancestors.

Don't all laugh at once but I've just received an email from Genes Reunited with the subject line: SUPER Hot Matches.

Needless to say it isn't a match let a alone a super hot match.

SUPER hot mismatch more like.  :)

I found a match by searching the trees, for my husband's g.grandfather.  The person listed, had the g.grandfather and the complete address where he was born,  and 4 of g.grandfather's 5 children on his tree.  However, when I contacted him, he said he didn't have them in his tree at all and GR must have made a mistake. ::)

Is that a SUPER Hot Match ???

Did this person have a huge family tree? I suspect that he may have down-loaded a gedcom and merged it with his tree. Probably never looked at it and has no idea of the names included in it. I don't think GR is responsible: they do not add names to a family tree. Since you found these matches by searching trees your self, 'hot matches' has nothing to do with it. I always do my own searching and have never found any false matches, but I have encountered
people who have no idea who is in their tree. This happens on other sites too, such as Ancestry.

If you mean the person I contacted, I've no idea, he didn't open his tree.  I only found the 5 matches with my husband's tree and this man, by putting in the names and doing a search, and there are others with a couple of matches each, but no-one with all the matches.  Unfortunately, so far the other people I contacted haven't even bothered to reply.

I know this is not what a Hot Match is, but I was just adding to the thread, having closed a thread I started, when Downside started this one  ;D

Hi Lizzie,

I have had Hot Matches showing my Tree with one name, and alongside it has been matched with someone of a totally different name ???

Once we have contacted someone a 'YES' appears alongside the other names they have in their Tree. Go back and do a search of the other names  to
see if  they are marked with a 'Yes'.

Sometimes I wish they would give members some sort of ID alongside the name. With only showing a first name it can be hard to work out if you have made contact before with this John, Jane, David  etc if you have deleted the original request.

If you hover your mouse over the persons name(wher it says find out more) who might have the same rellies as you,a distinct reference number comes up at the bottom of the page.

That is their GR membership number-although you would need to know if you have contacted them in the past by keeping a record of that number  ;D

I knew that, and yes he does have a Yes against the other names that are my husband's ancestors.  It's a bit odd, if he didn't want to give me any info, why didn't he just say so.
