James Scott
« on: Thursday 18 March 10 15:43 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I wonder if anyone can find his father.
In 1841 census Edmondsham Dorset opc Dorset
James Scott age 40 Farmer this makes him born 1801
Mary Scott Wife age 40    1801
Elizabeth Scott  age 16     1825
Mary Scott         age 12      1829
Georgina Scott  age 8         1833
Sarah Scott age 11 Months
In 1851 census
I found this
Mary Scott mother 81 born 1770 Hinton Parva
James Scott 56 born 1795 Pentridge Wimborne
Mary Scott wife 53 born 1798 Pentridge Wimborne
Georgina Scott dau 18 born 1833 Holt Dorset

This is a bit strange where were the other children in 1851
Also the parents ages seem to be different in each census.
Is there anyone who is related to this family.
Kind regards Chris

Firstly, ages were rounded in 1841, down to nearest 5 years, so that is why they are both recorded as age 40.

Secondly, re the children - Elizabeth and MAry are both grown up by 1851, so probably married or if not possibly in service somewhere. Georgina is with them, and baby Sarah could well have died (or be visiting friends or rellies on census night). As she was born after 1837, her birth cert will give mum's maiden name which might help find the marriage.

Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex
