Cando - what canisay? Just brilliant!

You not only solved the third sister for me, you discovered one conundrum as my father had told me that he remembered going to Canterbury to holiday as a very young boy, but it was to stay with the Bests. Needles to say, I've been looking for a Best presence in the Canterbury area off and on for some years.

Not only that, you found a brother I'd almost given up on. There was certainly never any family chat about Michael having gone to Australia as well as his sisters. In fact I once followed up on the possibility that he was in the RN during WWI, died and was buried in Goole, East Yorkshire - but that was a false lead.

So I now probably have Best, King and Hogbin relations in Australia and even the possibility that there may be some Quinlans too. All for asking one quite complicated and inaccurate question on RootsChat.

Many thanks Cando!  ;D ;D

Sadly, looks like no Quinlan relations in Australia. I got Michael Quinlan's death Cert. and he had no children. But what he did do, was also marry a Hogbin in Canterbury.

Looks like a brother and sister married a brother and sister.

I've tried calling all the Bests in the Victoria White Pages this morning, but they're all on answerphone. It must be saturday night!

Thanks again for that cando. I just an initial search on East Melbourne and got 6 numbers.

Are there burial records available for Springvale Cemetery?

Both Michael QUINLAN and Mary Ann QUINLAN/KING (brother and sister) are buried there so perhaps their spouses are too - Clara Alice HOGBIN/QUINLAN and Simon KING.

I was editing my last post as I hadn't noticed your previous post and when I post it - heck! You've gone and answered the question already!!

Just brilliant - thanks again.

A short follow-up to this string of postings!

I have located and been in touch with my 'Best' cousins in Melbourne, one of whom has been researching family history for almost as many years as myself.

We are in the process of exchanging masses of information and photographs and intend keeping in touch - thank you Skype!

Thanks too, to all the very helpful contributors who provided information for me on this subject.  ;D ;D
