Mary TURNER born at Ompton
« on: Friday 19 March 10 18:24 GMT (UK) »
My ancestor Mary Turner was born about 1792 in Ompton, Nottinghamshire - the place given on the censuses. However I don't think there was a church at Ompton. This would mean the most likely places of baptism would be neighboring Kneesall or Wellow. My problem is that there are two possibilities on the IGI:
Mary Turner bap. 3 Jul 1791, Wellow, Notts (parents William & Ann)
Mary Turner bap. 27 Jun 1792, Kneesall, Notts (parents William & Mary)

I was hoping that the original record might state the abode for one of them as Ompton - could anyone check please? Otherwise I'm not sure how to work out which one Mary was.

Thanks,
Alexander

Hi Alexander

Unfortunatly those two parishes are not covered on the Notts FHS CD.

I will have a look when I next go to the RO, sometime in April, if no one has done it before then.

Thank you Carol, that would be very much appreciated.

I have been looking into them both and following some of the siblings. It seems that a John Turner b. 1790, Ompton might be Mary's brother...in which case they could both be the children of the second couple William & Mary. It's still a bit of a guess so it will be nice to see what the original entry says. I hesitate to make too many assumptions with a name like Turner...

Thanks,
Alexander

Hi Alexander…..Hi Carol…. :)

I don’t have any useful answers for you but thought this link might help sometime as it is a transcript of Wellow registers and has baptism, marriages and the burials for the years 1703 – 1812;Privately printed in 1896.

The parish registers of Wellow in the county of Nottinghamshire.
