Looking for infomation on my Gt Grandfather - Alexander Reid b1878, Dundee?. . Married to my Gt Grandmother Annie Chalmers b1877, she was born in Lundie, Forfarshire. They married in 1900 in Dundee.
They had a son, William born 1900, Dundee.

My Gt Gt Grandfather was John Reid born around 1858?.

I had some credits left over on Scotland's People so I had a bit of a look for you:

I found Ann Chalmers and Alexander Reid's marriage cert which states that:

On 29 Dec 1899 at ? Street Hall Dundee - Married

Alexander Reid aged 22yrs - Yarn Bundler - bachelor
residence - 31 Cresent Street, Dundee
Ann Chalmers aged 21yrs - Jute Winder - spinster
residence - 2 Graham Place, Dundee

parents:
John Reid - wood carter - deceased
Jane Hollinger (previously Reid - Maiden surname Sime)
and
William Chalmers - shipping company's porter
Annie Chalmers (Maiden name Small)

also Ann Chalmers birth record:

Ann Chalmers b. 8 Nov 1878 at 10pm in East Keith Lundie Forfar

Parents
William Chalmers - ploughman
Annie Chalmers (maiden name Small)
married 11 Oct 1878 at Lundie Forfar

and lastly the 1881 census for the family:

14 Lyon Place, Dundee, Forfar
William Chalmers Head M 21yrs b. Murroes, Forfar, Scotland occ Carter
Annie Chalmers Wife M 22yrs b. St Martin's, Perth, Scotland
Ann Chalmers Dau - 2yrs b. Lundie, Forfar, Scotland
Agnes F Chalmers Dau - 3 mths b. Dundee, Forfar, Scotland
Alexander Small Relative U 24yrs b. Regorton, Perth, Scotland occ Engine Fitter at works

oh, I didn't really look for the Reid's but I did find a marriage record for a Jane Reid and a Joseph Hollinger in St Clement, Angus for 1891 - but I ran out of credits  It will give you somewhere to start though.

Good luck with the search - you should be able to get a fair way back with www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk it is a pretty good site

My maiden name is Reid, so I will be trying to trace Alexander Reid now. I have hit a brick wall with him.

Glad you liked the info - lucky for you I am on Scotlandspeople again and I thought that I'd have another look for Alexander Reid I found him on the 1901 census as follows:

6 Graham Place, St Andrews, Dundee, Angus

Alexander Reid Head M 24yrs Mill Ne?ier, Ruling b. Rosemount, Perthshire
Ann Reid Wife M 22yrs b. Lundie, Forfarshire
Willliam Reid 1yr b. Dundee, Forfarshire

If you get onto Scotland's People you should be able to find Alexander Reid's birth in about 1877 in Perthshire relatively easily.
