follow a family tree? Dron, Perthshire
« on: Wednesday 24 March 10 12:32 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I get a little confused using the IGI, can anyone understand it for me and make sense of a family tree branch  please....

Thomas Dron b 8th Jan 1784 Abernethy, Perth.
I have his father as being John Dron, can anyone go further back for me, I get confused, I would like to know the usual..children/siblings, mother & fathers names, dob etc...if anyone can help i'd really appreciate it. They seem to go back a fair way, but I can't break down who's directly related and who isn't..

Thank you

Click on the film number [usually Cxxxxxx] at the bottom left hand corner, then put 'dron' in the surname of the search page that comes up. The list that appears will have all other Drons transcribed from that register. You will have to look at them individually to see who has which parents. But don't make too many assumptions - there could be [say] 2 John's having children baptised around the same time. It's a shame the mother's name is not shown....

Hi

I'm sure I read somewhere that some parishes didn't record the mothers name on Baptisms until the 1800's.

Do you know who your Thomas Dron was married to?  There is a tree on Ancestry, and also some Census returns from 1841, 51 and 61 for a Thomas Dron married to Janet, all have Thomas born abt 1785 and all have his occupation as a Farmer.  The 1841 and 1851 are the same family the 1861 perhaps not.

1841 Newburgh, Fife
Thomas Dron 55 abt 1786 born Scotland, occupation Farmer
Janet Dron 40
William Dron 20
Sean Dron 15
Thomas Dron 12
Magdaline Dron 10
Robert Dron 8
Margaret Dron 6
David Dron 5
Charles Dron 2
Sean Dron 60

1851 Monzievaird and Strowan, Perth (Carse of Trowan)

Thomas Dron 66 born abt 1785 Abernethy, Perthshire  Occupation: Farmer of 150 Acres
Janet Dron 50
Mardaleno Dron 20
Thomas Dron 22
Robert Dron 18
Margaret Dron 16
David Dron 14
Charles Dron 12

1861 Crieff, Perth (Croftnappoch)

Thomas Dron 76. abt 1785 Born Aberfeldy, Perth. Occupation: Retired Farmer
Janet Dron 61
Ellen Bell Dron 19
