births or baptisms would usually be recorded locally - either in Civil or church records depending on the year..

Army records may be available in the regiments records or in the National Archives (Kew, London) - I also understand that some are available on the Find My Past website

hello
if the barracks had a church within the grounds as it seems richmond barracks did then i would go for the records being at kew. a few years ago i needed to get a copy of my daughters christning cert, she was christened @ the now dissused caterham barracks, even though the service was performed by an outside vicar as the battalion had no pardry at the time, i was also married there . after 3 months of checking every other guards barracks ,i traced the original books down @ kew. i had to laugh as the record books where listed under war records.
