Most Presbyterian churches didn't, and still don't, keep burial records.

Yes, the C of England were the official record keepers.

Forgot to say there's an added problem in that Ballybay and Clontibret "swapped" townlands when the parishes were redrawn, so they could be in either! Bet you didn't want to know that! :-X

I found my 'pink slips' on the microfilm
FHL# 1279239 item 17 Ballybay first presbyterian church register transcripts 1834-1984. I guess being weslyan methodist they would not be in a presbyterian church.

FHL #1279323 item 2 Register of christenings of Tullycorbet 1796-1831; 1833-1914
Second Ballybay Presbyterian church. Again I now know presbyterians and weslyan methodists are not the same.

Well I have a Methodist minister in my tree, his marriage, births/bapt of kids, their marriages and deaths  all recorded in C of E (now C of I) records at various churches in Monaghan.

I am also researching the Erwin / Irwin name and I have many of the same family members identified as possible links

They are all in the Ballybay, Monaghan, Ireland vicinity - I am going to export all the names from familysearch.org in that area and map them all together

I have a John Erwin born 1860 - who was a colporteur - seller of Bibles - Methodist in religion.  They lived in Ballymena at the end of their life - but lived in Boyle and Enniskillen as well.  they had 13 children.  Hugh, James, Elizabeth, Edward, Margaret, William, John, Samuel, Joseph, George and Thomas Alexander (the other two died at birth)

I am trying to establish if the Ballybay folks are Johns ancestors.  They all moved to the USA or canada except for 2 - one died and the other went to Scotland

As I said one of mine was a Methodist minister so I wouldn't rule out looking at local C of E/I registers as they were the official keepers of B.D.M's in the area.

The births for his children were in the local C of E/I even when he was in Lisburn when some were born.

If you are putting the names together from familysearch then make sure you note which ones were submitted and which are transcribed! Submitted ones can be extremely "inaccurate".

You've John and you name kids but not his wife... you'd need wife's name in order to look for marriage like;

1881 John Irwin, son of ? Irwin of wherever married ?  ?, dau of ?  ? of  wherever
OR
Birth ? ? 1882 Hugh son of John and ? Irwin of ?  etc

Then you could look for siblings of John  son of ? Irwin of wherever...

I have run aground on the family search on this particular group - I was hoping to build out another part of the puzzle to give me more things to try to piece together rather than one thread.  I can't find the marriage so I cannot confirm the parents....

I forgot to mention the wife was Jane Rainey
