Peny Bryn Chapel, LLangollen
« on: Friday 26 March 10 21:23 GMT (UK) »
I have a marriage record from 1856 and I am now trying to locate the husband's baptism record if possible.
They were married at Peny Bryn Chapel (baptists) in LLangollen.

I have read that this chapel is no longer there but I was wondering if anybody had any information as to where I could find the records.

I also realise that he may not even have been baptised there but I just thought it might be a good place to start! If anybody has any records from other churches in Llangollen around 1833 this would also be very much appreciated.

Please help if you can, even if you only have a tiny bit of information for me. I would be extremely grateful because LLangollen is giving me a major headache at the minute!

Brilliant, thanks for the fast reply!

His name is Richard Peake, born between 1832 and 1834. His father's name is Thomas Peake.

I'm afraid I don't know anything about him before he married so I can't give you any more details.

Hi  :)

Do you have his occupation at marriage and are you sure he was b. Llangollen?

The only Ricahrd Peak* that I can find on the 1851 who might fit is in Wellington, Shropshire:

HO107/1997/324/8

His father was a stone miner and he was a painter. Mother was Sarah.

Hi Gadget.

If you're talking about 1851 census I know that it definately isn't him but it is so annoying because the names fit don't they!

No, I'm not definate that he was born in Llangollen but he was living there at the time of his marriage.

He and is father were both boat builders according to his marriage certificate.

I've never been able to find him on 1841 and 1851 census records but I have just put it down to the fact that I know a lot are missing for this area.
As far as I can see, he never appears on the census records, he died in 1870.

Thanks for the help though!

Found him on the 1841:

Grindley Brook, Whitchurch/Wem, Shropshire
HO107/903/13/8/4

Peak
Thomas,30, boat builder
Mary,35
Richard,8
Mary Ann,5
Harriett, 1
William Breeze, 15, apprentice

All born Shropshire

I don't think he would have been baptised in Llangollen!

I assume that the family might well have travelled along the Ellesmere canal as far as Llangollen.

I can find no instances of the Peak/Peake Surname in the Baptisms listed in the Blackwell Index.Of course it is a Surname of great interest to me as I am directly descended from a Peak/Peake family that lived in the Ruabon and Chirk area in the first half of the 1700s.

Thanks Gadget, whilst of course there may not be any connection,my Greatx5-Grandparents Richard Peak(e) and Elizabeth Roberts were married at Whittington Shropshire on 18/08/1731.I have looked at the Richard Peak that Lisa mentioned before but I also until now perhaps haven't found him in the early Census years..
