How old was he and when was your grandmother born?

The first place to start would be with the medal index cards, but so far I have drawn a blank using both his name and his service number. It is possible therefore that he may not have served overseas.

The next possibility is to see if there is a surviving service record for him.

I can't find a surviving service record for him.

Trying to find medal index cards for men with similar service numbers was hit and miss.

I found a SWB card and a service record for John Childs Straughan, Gunner 206964, RGA. He attested in December 1915 and was placed on the Reserve until being mobilised in April 1918. He was posted to No. 2 Reserve Brigade (Siege) at Catterick.

I would think that it is highly likely that Frederick did not see overseas service before the end of the war, if at all.
