my NAIL problem
« on: Sunday 28 March 10 22:22 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can help me solve this. I am descended from a Benjamin NAIL born 1774 in Old Swinford, Worcestershire, son of Benedict NAIL & Margaret (nee MORTON).

Benjamin & Margaret had the following children in Old Swinford:
5 Jun 1768 Elizabeth d. of Benedict & Margaret NAIL
6 Jan 1770 John s. of Benedict & Margaret NAIL
29 May 1774 Benjamin s. of Benedict & Margaret NAIL
25 Feb 1776 Edward s. of Benedict & Margaret NAIL
13 Apr 1777 Joseph s. of Benedict & Margaret NAIL

Then in Old Swinford there are the following baptisms:
28 Dec 1778 Sarah d. of Benedict & Ann NAIL
26 Mar 1780 Benedict s. of Benedict & Ann NAIL
1 Jan 1782 Lydia d. of Benedict & Ann NAIL
12 Sep 1784 Ann d. of Benedict & Ann NAIL
5 Mar 1786 Benedict s. of Benedict & Ann NAIL
13 Jan 1788 Nancy d. of Benedict & Ann NAIL

It would seem that this second set of children were all children of the Benedict NAIL who married Ann GRIFFESS on 25 Apr 1775. I thought it was the same Benedict that married both Margaret and Ann. There is a Benedict born 1739, died 1788 that fits in perfectly.

However, the second marriage (in 1775) overlaps with the baptisms of two of Benedict and Margaret’s children. So can anyone confirm that the marriage between Benedict and Ann occurred in 1775? Also, I can find no burial for the first wife Margaret, which would really help to fill in the picture.

Thanks,
Alexander

Well, I've now worked out why I was so confused. I had written down the parents of the two sons Edward and Joseph wrong. Their parents were Benedict and Ann (not Margaret).

I'm still looking for a burial for Margaret however...it must have been in 1774 or 1775.

Great, thanks Jackie. That just about confirms it was the same Benedict.
