Help With Family? :D
« on: Sunday 28 March 10 22:26 BST (UK) »
I have just brought the 1911 census entry for my family, and i found out they lived at 19 Junction Street in manchester in a house shop, and the mother was a stay at home trouser machinist and this must of been their house/shop. Would i be able to find out anything on this small business?, also the Father and Eldest son, George and James Fraser, worked on the railways, obvioulsy on the manchester railways, what records could i find out about them?

Have you tried looking at the main board for the area of Manchester?  To see if there are any links posted.
There may be links for Trade or Occupations, Kellys directory etc.

Hi, i have just looked at the 1911 for your family members and don't think it would have been a shop. I think  Mary Agnes Fraser was more likely to have been a worker from home and doing piece work. If the Junction street you are talking about was around the Ancoats area of Manchester, many women with young children worked from home to contribute to the family. So i don't think you will find anything on her or the home been a business, but i could be wrong? By the way nothing mentioned in the 1913 directory for that address. You could check the historical directories on line for other dates. Other directories up to 1967and Electoral roll are at Manchester central library, might be worth you going and having a look?

If she was a home worker it is unlikely you will find any records unless you can find out who she was employed by
