Stapleton, Hi my name is David Michael Hutton son of Joseph Francis Hutton, he was born in Tullyfin near Coothill Co Cavan.
Joseph joined the British army in 1936 and took part in both the Dunkirk and Normandy landings, he stayed on in the army until he had completed his 22 years service. He passed away in 1997 aged 86, and buried in Prestatyn cemetery North Wales.
I visited the family home as a child in 1953, Hilary hired a car and took us to Coothill. At this time the family as you probably know lived in Griffith Avenue Dublin. If memory serves, your father Bill was working as a sound re cordist for the broadcasting service. I used to have a small book of his poems.
I remember Aunt Babs, uncle Tom and both the Eileen's. Was your grandfather a policeman and accomplished accordion player?
My sister * has lived in Killyleagh Co Down for many years, she is married to * Irvine a local fuel merchant.
My father told me that his father was a steward on an estate in Cavan, although on my dads marriage certificate it gave his fathers occupation as a corn thresher.
I visited uncle Tom at his cottage in the grounds of Phoenix park, I believe he was in charge of the grounds.
To find your post on Christmas day is a lovely present, I would love to know more of my Irish ancestry. Kind regards, your cousin Dave
