So it is.

Good thing I wasnt a Navigator!

Wobbly,

Maybe if you post his full details, someone will oblige by looking up his medal card. His service history may or may not still exist, again i'm sure someone will help with that info.

This link seems quite helpful with the regiments history.

Thank you Pete,
I have tried looking him up on ancestry records but with no results.
His full name was Frank Payton b.1889 Bury, Lancashire (This is where he was still living in 1911 census... working as a 'cotton worker' and he later married there as well). Unfortunately I don't have any more information than that.
If anyone can help with the medal card that would be amazing.

Type National Archive Medal Cards in google and it'll take you to the right area.

I had a quick look, several Frank Paytons but not yours I think, searching just on Payton brought up several pages, but again no Cheshire Regiment.

Bear in mind the cap badge is pre-22, so it could be a photo taken 1919 - 22, but...he's not in a protected trade, so would have been called up for WW1.

Maybe a visit to the museum is in order, they might be able to help.

Pete

Thanks Pete I will definatily have to go to the museum I think as I got much the same as you, maybe the records I am after were amongst the ones destroyed. A great deal more searching is called for on this one to get a better picture.
Thank you so much for your help on this.
