my grandfather

Looking for information all I know is his name was Arthur Looker born in 1890 do not know where died in 1926 at the age of 36years in Derbyshire. He married my grandmother Ada Mary Ide  at Chicester in May 1919. He was a barber owned his own shop he used to cut Lord Chatsworth`s  hair plus the male servants. He was also in the infantry army during the first world war. His family owned a watch, clock and jewellery shop in Faringdon Oxfordshire. His family always regarded that he had married beneath himself so cut themselfs of from him. He had a sister known as Queenie do not know if it was nickname or proper name.

according to the marr index the marr took place at godstone in 1920
arthurs name is down as arthur.w.looker
i can only find one arthur w looker birth between 1885-1895
that is in 1893 in lewisham
you would need the marr cert that would give you his fathers name and occupation
you could then look on the 1901 census to try and find him

Have you tried the Free BMD or the IGI or kyour local Family History Society for the county/area in which he lived around Chichester, which I believe is Hampshire?

As mentioned above the only Arthur W Looker was born in 1893 in Lewisham.
I have found him in the 1901 census his information and his family are as follows.

Arthur William Looker born in 1893 In Lee, Kent. 1901 he resided in the same place in the eccelestial parish of St Margarets, London.

Father: Arthur Edgar Looker b.1870 in Bromley By Bow? Occupation Barber, it appears that in 1901 the owned their own barber shop.
Mother:Edith Harriet Looker b. 1873 in Farringdon, Berkshire
Siblings: Edgar Hughes Looker b. 1896 in Lee, Kent
Edith May Rowena Looker b.1899 in Lee,Kent

if the fathers name is arthur.e.looker and his occupation is barber(seeing as your arthur was a barber then think it is a good chance this is the right family)
then he is the one born in lewisham in 1893

Arthur Edgar Looker (Your Grandfathers Father) was born in 1870 in Bromley middlesex and His Father was Richard Looker who was born in 1838 in Bromley. His Occupation was Oilman. They Lived At 21 Walker terrace. Also Richard Looker (b.1838) his father was called Richard Looker who was born in 1807 in cambertine, Cambridgeshire. It is very difficult to make out his occupation on the census, but i believe it to say that he was a Grocer. I will try to go back further, but it may be down to look of finding parish records and if anyone else has down this family before.
