Have been looking for the name "Boy" in various sources and noted several entries on Genes that combine it with someone of South African decent.
So could "BOY" have been a coloured servant whose given name they found unpronouncable?
It is noticable that whoever had him buried in the cemetery in 1932 when jobs and funds were becoming scarce, could still afford a monument of some significance.

The epitaph seems a bit over the top for a servant  :-\

An epitaph that is too much for a servant but possibly OK for a horse or dog.
I make no further comment.      Roy G

"BOY" being in inverted commas does suggest a pet name of some description, and the fact that there is no date of birth on the stone, just an age.
The only thing that springs to mind is possibly the vicar's much loved dog. (If anyone could get away with it the vicar could!) The "hands" part of the inscription could be there to mislead..?

(Maybe I've been watching too many Agatha Christie progs! ???)

Glen, do the surrounding stones belong to one particular family?  I was wondering if it was a family plot.

I'm sticking with "Boy" being an affectionate family (etc) name for a beloved son, brother, grandson, ward, husband or lover of the person commissioning the monument, as opposed to this reflecting any employer/employee relationship or anything involving species other than homo sapiens.

Was he a real person, or a character in a Canadian novel of the 1970s?
