HERION in Heidelberg, Baden, Germany
« on: Friday 02 April 10 17:28 BST (UK) »
Hello everybody.

Ages since I came to this side of Rootschat.

1901 Census for 34, Lissom Street Residences, St Marylebone, London  has GEORGE HERION a baker b Heidelberg c1864.

He married as GEORGE ADAM HERION  Mary Ann Goss on 16 Jan 1887 St Marylebone.  His father's name is given as JOHN HERION a tailor.

The IGI for Germany gives the following.

GEORG ADAM HERION
was Christened  on 03 MAY 1865  at Evangelisch, Schoenau, Heidelberg, Baden
His parents are given as    JOHANNES HERION and KATHARINA SCHUHMACHER.

Here I came unstuck as I cannot see the marriage for JOHANNES HERION and KATHARINA SCHUHMACHER, but they are christening children from c1845 onwards.

Throughout the same period, there are also children being christened in the same church for JOHANNES HERION and EVA KATHARINA SCHUHMACHER.

Is there any chance of establishing

a. whether Eva and Katharina  are one and the same

b. the marriage and parentage of JOHANNES HERION and KATHARINA SCHUHMACHER?

Thank you.

Any ideas would be gratefully received as it is for a friend.

Best wishes

Mark :)

Hi Mark,

do you look at the IGI from familysearch or do you go directly to batch numbers for Germany. I think not everything is on the familysearch site.

For such a small place Schönau has a lot of Herions.

You could get the film from LDS  (Germany, Baden, Schönau (A. Heidelberg) - Church records). Often there are  extra notes in the margins to identify the different  families. I had the same problem, half  the village had my mothers name and one good Priest gave house numbers for them all, so it was quite easy to go back.

I think Eva Katharina and Katharina are the same. All the others spell it with C.

Regards Peonie

Hi Mark,

Tell Wendy she has good taste. It's a lovely place I will again visit later in the year.

The Dukes of my hometown built the castle there (during the 1500s )and, after inheriting the area around Heidelberg, another castle there.

I like to look at the lovely winter photo when we have our very hot summers.

Regards, Peonie

Hi Peonie

Thought it probably was somewhere on that river!!!

The cold went on a little too long this winter, here in England... don't mind cold, frosty winters, but just damp dark misery going on for nearly three months can be tiring.

Thank you for you help with this thread.

Best wishes

Mark

Hi Mark,

I'm researching the same family - George Herion & Mary Ann Goss, St Marylebone, London.

My connection is their son George (1888-1914) who was killed during the early stages of the First World War.

Are you related to the family?
