medal card query
« on: Monday 05 April 10 15:34 BST (UK) »
I have a medal card but don't understand the info. on it and wondered if anyone could explain it for me.

Next to the discharge date it gives the cause for discharge as "Para 392(xvi)" then in red 'WO letter re 3039'

In 'Action taken' it has List RE/3039 then written across it in red has 'name erased therefrom' followed by 'Form Ca G ? sent' then 'resubmitted on list RE/3275'.

I'm assuming it means the reason for his discharge meant his name was taken off the medal roll, then put on again??

If anyone can clarify this for me I would be very grateful.

Regards

Hello Sandie,

Could you post  a name, regiment/corps and service number? It's easier when you can look at it.

From what you have posted, I would guess that it is a Silver War Badge card for a Royal Engineer.

Para 392 (xvi) is discharged no longer physically fit.

Thank you for your reply.

The card is for James Arthur Dinmore, R.E. Inland Waterways and Docks, Reg no. WR328079.

Sandie,

It is a Silver War Badge card. In the absence of a stamp on the card or another card, it appears that he did not serve overseas, therefore was not entitled to any medals.

He was originally discharged due to sickness (or accident) on 22/11/18 and entitled to the Silver War Badge.

As I read it.......for some reason, his name was erased from the Roll. Possibly his claim was rejected. In Feb 1919 he was sent Form Ca G and his case was resubmitted on the later Roll.

I haven't been able to trace what "Form Ca G" is. Possibly some sort of Casualty Form.

The actual Rolls may give you more information, but are only available at Kew.
