Welcome to this weeks Scavenger Hunt........It's another one of those 'Find it in the first half hour - or it'll take the full thread'

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Barbara

                                 **********************************

Trying to find Mary Wickham after 1801 is what I am after. I think her mum Mary Wickham and dad William Wickham died in Slaugham, Sussex in 1810 and 1820.

Mary Wickham baptised 16 MAY 1779 Bolney, Sussex, England
Parents:
     Father:     WILLIAM WICKHAM    Family
     Mother:     MARY

The family occasionally used the alias of Blink/Blank. Mary was in Twineham in 1801 when she had a daughter Amelia (Mildred) baptised in 1801. I dont know if she married, died or what.

IF Mary was still alive in 1851, then the census shows 3 Mary's born in Bolney around the right time - Mary Chills, Elliott and Shirley .... but I cant see a Mary Wickham marriage to any of these names on IGI

Someone with Sussex marriage Index would be better bet!

Hi

Yes Mildred Wickham, Mary's daughter married John Walder in 1818. She died in August 1860 aged 59. I descend from her son John Walder born 1820 in Slaugham. Mary must have died locally, or did she?

That is a possibility. It would be good to finally find out about her.

The Mary Wakem (Wickham) at Rotherfield 1841 Census does not appear on 1851 - neither are there any Mary Wickhams near correct age in country.

Deaths of Mary Wickhams in Sussex 1841 - 1851 are

Mary Wickham   Cuckfield  Jan/March 1844

Mary Wickham    Uckfield   Oct/Dec 1845

Mary Wickham    Ticehurst  Apr/June 1843

Has to be one of these - Bed time now will look in tomorrow  :)

Cuckfield website  www.cuckfieldcompendium.co.uk worth visiting.

Cuckfield was a union town responsible for providing a workhouse for the area that included Albourne ....... Bolney  ....... Slaugham and Ticehurst. Did Mary die there?
There is also a page that lists surnames and an email addy for someone researching Wickhams in Sussex.

Hi

Looks a very interesting site. Have you looked any more into those deaths you found?
