Gertrude Thrift's researches
« on: Tuesday 06 April 10 14:19 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Gertrude Thrift was an early 20th century genealogist who, among other things, extracted information from early Irish census records before the fire in 1922 destroyed them all (or nearly all).

The link following shows material filmed by the LDS, including some of Thrift's work:

 http://ahd.exis.net/monaghan/fhc-records.htm

Of particular relevance to this forum are these ones:

Film 596418 Item 2  - Thrift Extracts, Census Abstracts For 1821  (Monaghan County parishes of Donagh, Kilmore, Tydavnet)

Film 1279321  - Miscellaneous Land Records, County Monaghan 1704-1873

Film 1279322 - Miscellaneous Land Records From County Monaghan

Is anyone here familiar with this material?  If so, what is its coverage like?   Any clues as to which families, or types of family, might be included in these?

Yes have seen a good few of them, luckily a good few of the names I was after were there. You get households, father/mother/sons etc and some useful hints as often they contain a niece etc so you get a good hint at other surnames within the family....

If you have someone born in early 1800's you might get them as someone's g/child...not bad!
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.
