John & Jemima COX of Kidderminster
« on: Tuesday 06 April 10 21:24 BST (UK) »
I'm having trouble tracing the following family after 1851:

1851 census: 7 George St, Kidderminster, Worcestershire (Ref: HO107/2038, Folio 469, Page 18)
John Cox, Head, Mar, 27, Hand Loom Weaver (Carpets), Worcester Kidderminster
Jemima Cox, Wife, Mar, 25, Worcester Kidderminster
Jane Cox, Daur, 4, Worcester Kidderminster
Emma Cox, Daur, 10 m, Worcester Kidderminster

I know that Jemima's maiden name was NAIL (they married in 1846). I believe that the daughter Emma was in Gloucestershire for the 1861 census, but other than that I can't find anything about the family.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Alexander

Sorry, I just found something and don't want to waste anyone's time...it turns out they went to Australia in 1853, which would explain why they all vanished from the censuses.

This always happens five minutes after I post on RootsChat!

Hi Tressle, yes I believe it's them on the Marian Moore. For some reason the original image doesn't seem to be on Ancestry, where did you view it?

Thanks,
Alexander

I did view it on Ancestry.  Although it is blurry.  There is another child which I think is something like Richard.      Victoria, Australia, Assisted and Unassisted Passenger Lists, 1839–1923 - arriving Melbourne 15th Feb 1853

Hi Alexander
Are you still interested in John and Jemima Cox, after they got to Australia? One of their daughters married one of my son in law's ancestors.

Hi Eric,

Apologies for a very delayed reply – I am just getting back into the research. I am definitely interested in learning more about the Cox family after they left for Australia as I have very limited information at that point.

Thanks

Alexander

Hi Alexander
Most of what I know about the Cox family in Australia is on the Australia section of Roots chat. There are seven pages of questions and answers on the family. The topic has been read some 4600 times!!!!!! Most of the problem is with the daughter Alice who married a Thomas Llewellyn but who was not very good at maths regarding her age when she married' I would try going through that first. The topic is "John and Jemima Cox" + Australia.

It's hard to believe that it is so long since I started looking at the family. Best wishes  Eric

Hi Eric,

Thanks for your reply. I've found the other thread - will take some time to read and absorb!
