GenesReunited Gold Membership Censuses
« on: Wednesday 07 April 10 18:54 BST (UK) »
I have enjoyed 6 months of Gold Membership with GR and it has been very useful. This period is coming to an end on 11 April so I am watching to see what will happen. I have been notified that my subscription is due and I can still change to standard membership.

Today I noticed, I am sure, for the first time that I can access 1881 census records. Has this always been the case or is it a new addition. I had always used Family Search before and would move between the websites.

I hope it is a recent change as I never noticed it before. :D :D :D

Hi Judy,

The last time I checked census on GR must have been Feb and I am sure it wasn't there then

Firstly Gold membership on GR is useless they do not actauly hold any records merely re-direct you to another archive.  Stick with standard membership & join either Findmypast (this includes the 1911 census too) or Ancestry (no 1911 access, but far more records available).  You can try both out on free trials.

Also 1881 census is FREE just google "1881 census" and quite a few websites will come up.  This is the only census which is free.  No one should be charging for looking at these records.

Just what I was going to say.......don't go for Gold!  Just like here, you can always ask for help on the community boards. R.

Thanks for your comments.

I really need Scottish records too. Does FindMyPast have them?

Can you explain the pricing structure for Ancestry please? It seems a bit complicated. Also what is the cost for FindMyPast? Do either of these sites have a six months option?

I know I could look this information up myself but your advice would be valued.

Thanks. :D

Hi Judy

Both Ancestry & FindMyPast have a 14 day free trial that might be worth trying to see what suits you best.

Ancestry is also available free at many libraries including Solihull according to the council website.

Ancestry has transcriptions of Scottish censuses, FindMyPast doesn't, the major site for Scottish records is
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ it is a pay per view site.
