RICHARD BARTLETT
« on: Wednesday 23 March 05 21:06 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find Richard Bartlett who married Jane Howell in 1840 in the 1841,1851,1861 census.
They married in Neath and believe lived there in the later census records
Any help would be appreciate.Would also like to know if any other Bartletts were there at the time of the 1841 census
Thank You
Linda

Hi Nigel,

Linda & I are collaborating on this family - she's away at the moment, so I thought I'd move on to the next bit !

The Margaret Bartlett you found in 1841 was, I think, the wife (marr 1835 Swansea) of Thomas Bartlett, born abt 1808 in Prestbury Glos.
He was an elder brother of both Richard, and William (b abt 1818) who was married to Ann nee Cummins/Commins, and who lived in Prestbury, Glos. William & Ann's first child, Mary Ann, was born in Neath in 1840 - we think that they were visiting for Richard's wedding to Jane Howell, and baby arrived unexpectedly !
What all this is leading up to is as follows: we haven't been able to find William & Ann (or Mary Ann !) in 1841, and I was wondering if they were with Thomas (also not in Neath in 1841) somewhere else ! I don't know a.) what date this census was conducted; and b.) if you have access to anywhere other than Neath; but any help will be gratefully received !!!

Cheers,
Chris

Richard Bartlett owned the 'garden' where Library Road, Neath and the houses along it are today.  I believe part of his 'garden' is now in Victoria Gardens.  If you have any info on his exact address in London Road or a plan showing what he owned, I would be delighted to hear from you.  I am currently researching Victoria Gardens before it became Victoria Gardens.
