Ernest Moore- Help needed
« on: Friday 09 April 10 07:48 BST (UK) »
Hi All.

I wondered if anyone could find Ernest prior to his being in the
Coldstream Guards No. 2649342.

He came from Hose, Leciester and I am attaching a previous sheet
with info that might help.

On other info it has noted 64002 Yorks Regt yet I can not find a
medal card or service record.

T.I.A.

Hi Sandy

The 7-digit army number shows he was serving after 1920. If he served for a continous period his papers will be still with the MOD.

Can you give the date he joined the Coldstreams and also the answer to the question about previous service? With any service in a Guards regiment you can always pay their museum £30 (?) for a copy of their records. Or pay the same amount to the MOD.

Hello Sandy,

Naughty girl  ;)

Did that sheet come from the usual place?

It looks like he started with the 3rd Leicesters, but I can't read the original number.

I'm at work at the moment  :( so can't look through it now

Hi All.

Sorry I had a set-back health wise so could not answer until now.

Cuz you have the right family on the Census .

This query is for my dear friend Anna, so she has the birth certificate and
death for Ernest and your census listing notes the other siblings.

Ernest father was Thomas Moore who was a Journeyman Painter.

Do you think you could find him on the same year.

I have him on the 1881, 1901, 1911 entries.

Thanks. :)

Cuz Sandy

HI Ken.

I have the documents for Ernest from the Regimental Headquarters.

It is known that Ernest lied about his age and therefore it is known he
served previous to 1920.

Hi Phil.  :)

Me Naughty.  :)

Ernest has so many numbers it is hard to work them out.

30256 is crossed through and 2649342 above.

It also says 64002 (Pte) from 17-10-1917 to 26-11-1919
Yorkshire Regt. Demoblised.

It states the Brit War Medal and Victory Medal.

Other than that I can not see anything else that will help.

Sandy  :)

Edit: Corrected mis-spellings.

Hello Sandy,

Good to see you up and about.  :)

His MIC with the Yorkshire Reg is not exactly informative.

I've been doing a bit of number crunching.

I assume his Leicester's number is 48210.

There are a few MICs missing from the 48***, which may imply that they are either a late issue, or that a batch were transferred elsewhere before going overseas. There are no overseas casualties in that range prior to Summer 1918.

Looking at SDGW and his Yorkshire's number, apart from a few Home deaths with 18th Battalion, late 1918, all the 63***, 64*** and 65*** casualties were with 6th Battalion during the Russian Campaign.

  Hi Cuz....

Well Sandy I hope you are not over doing it.
I have looked high and low for his father Thomas in the census but he hasn't jumped out yet.
