Help with Looking up Everal Annie Dean & James Jolly, Please!
« on: Wednesday 23 March 05 22:07 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I'm looking for details of my Great Grandparents, Everal Annie Dean who married a James Jolly sometime between 1918 and 1924. They both came from Yorkshire, I believe Everal was from Stockton born circa 1892, but I don't know about James. I have only been able to confirm 1 Everal Annie Dean in ALL sites I have looked on, and several kind people on this site have confirmed this.
Everal & James had 2 (poss 3) children - VICTOR JOLLY and DAPHNE KATHLYN JOLLY (poss a Francis), before Everal sadly passed away. James remarried (2nd wife details n/k), anf had two further sons, DENNIS & DOUGLAS.
DAPHNE KATHLYN (my Gran), married a Canadian in 1944, had 3 children and was widowed in 1949. My Nan never remarried, and passed away in 1993.
ANY info on the family would be great, as this is all I have at the moment.
Thanks for your time!  ::)

Joe,
Many Thanks. Info confirms sketchy details already obtained. Just now trying to tie in the Jolly's, but they're a popular name. It does put me on the track for relatives not already found...
Thanks Again,
Jools

Hi Everal Annie Dean is related to my family but I don't know anything of the Jollys.
Her mother Annie Teasdale was the half sister of my grandfather David Teasdale.  I would be happy to exchange information with your.

A search of the Tees Valley Indexes site for Everal Dean (birth) gives the following:

Search Results
Search births - results for EVERAL DEAN 1892 to 1902

Result Year Forename  Initial    Ref Number
1        1892 EVERAL    A         S-N-138-0-0354 Stockton-on-Tees

The link to the search result is: http://www.middlesbrough-indexes.co.uk/search.php?table=births&last_name=dean&first_name=everal&year=1897&span=5. The reference number can be used to purchase a birth certificate, for Everal, from the Stockton Registrars office. You can get details how to do that from the above link.

On the Free BMD site I got the following result for a search for Everal in 1892:

Surname  First name(s)    District     Vol  Page
~~~~~~~~
Births Sep 1892
~~~~~~~~
Dean       Everal Annie      Stockton  10a  68

So her birth was registered in the 3rd quarter of 1892. The Stockton 10a 68 reference can be used to purchase a certificate from the GRO link: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/.

I can onlly find one James Jolly born in the Tees Valley area using that site, and that was in Hartlepool in 1882. There is no sign of a marriage in the Tees Valley area during the period you mention, but the indexes aren't complete.

I hope this is of some use to you.

regards,
Mike.

Hi Jools,

I've just noticed in the North Yorkshire Look Up request board that you mention another Jolly born in Darlington. If the Jolly's came from that area then the FREE BMD site gives the following for a James Jolly:

Surname  First name(s)    District      Vol  Page
~~~~~~~~
Births Sep 1890
~~~~~~~~
Jolly        James              Darlington  10a 19

Again the "Darlington 10a 19" reference can be used to obtain a birth certificate from the GRO as mentioned in my previous message.

Regards,
Mike.

Mike,
many thanks for this info. I have just been very lucky to be given another lead from another site, and with this information I have been able to make the connection! It is always nice to be given information, but sometimes you just can't tie it in.
I've found out that one of the names I had been given was actually a middle name, so I'm now going to search again and see what I come up with.
Mike, do you know if the records on the BMD site are the same as on Ancestry? There seems to be a big hole between 1910 and 1930's. I KNOW that some of my relatives were born/died in this range of years, but cannot find a trace of them anywhere. I'll try BMD and see what I come up with.
Thanks once again,
Jools

I think they do use the same database, but if you go to the free bMD homepage and http://www.freebmd.rootsweb.com/ click the information link, this gives access to pages which show the percentage coverage that the database gives for each type of event in a given year. There is definitely a cut off point after around 1905ish.

If your ancestors were married in the Tees Valley area (Darlington, Stockton, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Redcar or Guisborough) it's worth doing a search on the Tees Valley indexes. I've found details of events on there that I couldn't find on FreeBMD. The link is: http://www.middlesbrough-indexes.co.uk/.

Mike.
