Help!!!!

I would love any information about this photo. All I know is, he was my Grandad, born & bred in Birmingham & I presume this is a WW1 photo.

Prior to WW1.

Around 1900? by the look of the uniform, somewhere like Egypt or Afghanistan?

Do you know his date of birth, and his name will help - he may be on a medal roll for the period.

The photograph appears to have been taken outside, and a better image than you get with most c1900 views. Wristwatches were also still rare in 1900, so I would suggest a later date. But if he is your GF you should know when he was born. If you add 20-30 years to that it will help with the dating.

Thanx for your replies Re my Grandfathers photo.
His name was William Edward Weston, born in 1886. The watch he is wearing has a sand guard so was probably Army issue.
I thought he may have been in WW1, as there was a gap in the births of his children, 3 were born before, up until 1916 then 4 were born after 1920.
I have looked through war records on Ancestry to no avail, i'm sure it would help if I knew the Regiment.

Hi Lorraine

You will not tell the regiment from this photograph. You could try Findmypast in case there are any references in the regimental/overseas BMDs. The army would not have given him a watch. He probably bought it 'out there' where ever that may be.

Can you say where he was born?
