only medal card i can find for a william edward weston is

Trouble is there are 5 more for William E Weston  ::)

Perhaps he retired and was in the Labour Corps for WW1 so no MIC but perhaps a service record at TNA  :-\

Gosh, thankyou all so much for trying to help in my search.
I don't have anything else to go on, although i have quite a lot of Family Tree knowledge i don't know anything about my Grandfathers military years. An elderly cousin of mine thought he spent some time at 'The Somme', I haven't found any evidence of that though.
I'm afraid i'm not too hot on Military terms etc, could you enlighten me on the abbreviations mentioned in Wendi's post, (MIC & TNA).

Sorry Lorraine !

I hate acronyms but now find myself using them  ::)

MIC's are Medal Index Cards.  These are the main reference to soldiers who served in WW1 and went abroad.  There were many soldiers who served in the UK and never went abroad who did not receive a MIC.

TNA is The National Archives at Kew in London.  If your Granddad served as a soldier and retired prior to WW1 his service record should be there.
