Harrogate Burial 1934
« on: Saturday 10 April 10 20:47 BST (UK) »
I have been trying to find out where some family graves in Harrogate are located. I contacted Stonefall Cemetery and they were able to find all of them except one. Arthur Wilson (born 1873- died 1934) isn't on their database and they think he must be buried in a churchyard. I think he lived in the Bilton area but can anyone suggest how I can find out where his grave is?
Many thanks
Sue

There is no Arthur Wilson death in Yorkshire between 1932-1936 that matches to a birthyear between 1868-1878

Are you sure you have the right info

Sue,

I am afraid that I am not very familiar with the Harrogate area but is it possible that Arthur was buried at All Saints Parish Church, Ripley?

The reason why I ask is that if you go to the web site www.gravestonephotos.com there is an entry for an Arthur Wilson who was buried there in 1934.  Buried in the same grave is Annie Wilson in 1953 who was the wife of Arthur.

If this is the person you are looking for you can request a photograph of the headstone and this will be e mailed to you free of charge.

Best Wishes

I haven't a clue why Ancestry failed to find this one - I double searched before replying above

Ripley was in the Knaresborough Registration district so this must be his death reg

Arthur Wilson December qtr 1934 aged 60 Knaresborough  9a 120

EDIT - I searched Yorkshire - different database for West Yorkshire which is why I didn't find it first time - grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

CaroleW,

It looks like it could be a strong possibility. :)

Sue,    In 1982 I recorded then checked Ripley churchyard memorial inscriptions and made a plan of their locations.  The following may be of interest. My copy has this.... No.132 a small square block of stone.  South face.... " In loving memory of my dear husband Arthur Wilson died October 30th 1934".    North face....." Also Annie beloved wife of Arthur Wilson died March 14th 1953 aged 72 years".
Location was near boundary south of church south door. If you wish a photograph of it could send email or post.  There were/are 414 MI's.  Five archives etc received copies of the recording.              Gragareth.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
I emailed gravestonephotos.com and got a photo of the headstone at Ripley. All this within 24 hours!
I do think this must be "my" Arthur Wilson but it was quite a surprise to find that he had another partner in Ripley. He did leave his original family but I have never heard about a second family. I will have to try and follow this up. Possibly the parish records at Ripley would tell me something if I make a trip there.

I am really grateful to everyone for their assistance. Gragareth- thanks for your offer of a photo of the headstone but I had already applied to gravestonephotos.com

Sue,

You are more than welcome.  I am pleased that you appear to have found your Arthur and also that you were able to obtain a photo also.  It is a brilliant web site if you are searching in the areas which at present at covered.

Good luck with your future research.

Best Wishes
