RE: Birth
« on: Tuesday 13 April 10 12:04 BST (UK) »
Hi wonder if anyone can give me some help with regard to Irish records.

I have a name and a DOB and a Fathers name, so I should be able to find a birth for the person? Or is there a different system in Ireland.

Any help would really be appreciated  ;)

providing the birth is after full Civil registration started (1864) you can search the Civil Index for details. These are are grouped by years for early records and by quarter later on.  The index does not show father's name, you have to order a cert to see that.

have a look at this topic for details  - 2 Minute Introduction to Irish Records

some extracted birth details from about 1864 to the late 1870s are included on the IGI www.familysearch.org - and these do show parents names, and sometimes a location

Thanks Shane but have searched and found nothing.

The birth was 1911, I really want to apply for the birth cert! Just proving very difficult for some reason.

Thanks again

If the family were in Ireland you could search for them on the 1911 Irish census (free) see : http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

If you post the name and any details you have, maybe someone could help you..

Do you know where Francis was born or anything about his parents ?

I would allow a little leeway in age given on a death cert - as this is based on the knowledge of the informant, who may not have known the exact year or date.

have you tried this one from the civil index ?

 Name: Francis Duffy
 Registration district: Castlereagh
 Record type: Birth
Quarter and year: Jul - Sep 1911
 Volume: 4 / Page: 119

The year and quarter fit with the date your have, and the registration district is split between Mayo and Roscommon.

I know his Father to be Michael as that is taken from Francis marriage cert.

I also believe him to have come from Kilmovee Roscommon
