Have you found the marriage record for Patrick & Elizabeth. Civil registration index on the pilot search on www.familysearch.org & church records on pay-per-view site www irish-roots.ie. Elizabeth Hoey being the less common name would probably make it easier to narrow down. Patrick Connor will be a very common name so not so easy.
Try the civil index & try matching the vol & page numbers on both. The marriage cert will give father's names & occupations.

On the census form Patrick and Lizzie state they have been married 28 years - so c1883. Assuming that they both were from this Drumcar area originally then there only seems to be one good match for their marriage (I tried O'Connor also) :

 Name: Patk Connor
 Registration district: Ardee
 Record type: Marriage
Quarter and year: Jul - Sep 1882
 Volume: 2 / Page: 327

I dont see any cross-match for this record to an Elizabeth Hoey (or similar) - but as this is in the correct registration district for Willistown/Drumcar , and in the about the right year it might be worth following up anyway in case Elizabeth's name has been mis-indexed or used an unusual spelling.

The only Eliz. Hoey marriage in the area is a bit later in 1885.. and from what I've seen when people made errors with 'years married' or age on census forms they tend to underestimate.. but again might be worth following up :

 Name: Elizabeth Hoey
 Registration district: Ardee
 Record type: Marriage
Quarter and year: Oct - Dec 1885
 Volume: 2 / Page: 333

It looks like I am back to square one. I have just spoken to my father in law and he now thinks that Hoey is incorrect. He said he assumed it was Hoey as there were many in the area. I explained this is most unhelpful but now he doesnt have a clue what Elizabeths maiden was ha ha!

So! Patrick marriage ties in with the children birth dates, just to find an Elizabeth which cross matches with Patrick!!

Thank you for all this help! Was this info from irish roots? I should have a look. I am work and obviously supposed to working  ;)

The marriage detail is from the Irish Civil BMD Index on familysearch. I'll have a quick look and see if there any Elizabeth marriages that could match that one for Patrick..

found a possible cross match :

 Name: Elizabeth Murphy
 Registration district: Ardee
 Record type: MARRIAGES
Quarter and year: Jul - Sep 1882
 Volume: 2 / Page: 327

It might be an idea to search for certs for births of one or two of the children to confirm Elizabeth's maiden name.

You kindly gave me the site for ordering certs so I shall get onto this this weekend. Hopefully, when armed with more info I can start moving on before we visit Ireland

Thanks!
