Do you think he perhaps lied about his age and birthplace on his marriage cert??
Janine

Wouldn't be the first time ;)

He could have been born Victoria and his birth not registered.  Perhaps his age was estimated for his death registration.  Information on death certs is unreliable.  You could look at his age and place of birth on his marriage cert of Belinda Elizabeth LUCAS.

Having a quick look at the death indexes, a couple of possible deaths for your couple.....and Melbourne East Hospital may mean a indicate Charles died in the Melbourne Benevolent Asylum.  The two death registrations of the children Jane and Catherine had father named as Charles.

OMALLEY Charles
Parents unknown
At  Melb East Hospital 68 years  1895

OMALLEY Honora
Parents unknown
At Fitzroy South  65 years 1900  Reg#9019

If this is your Honora there may be identifying information about who and when she married, when and where she was born, her marriage status and the names of her children.  If it was my family this would be the cert I would purchase.  There aren't a lot of OMALLEY deaths on the indexes so makes it a bit easier to speculate.

Did another trawl for any deaths with either Charles or Patrick OMALLEY as father and Honora as mother.  Once again would have to see some certificates to validate the info.

Janine I always use google maps streetview to see if the homes of those I am researching are still there.  You may like to do the same :)  Adds a bit of interest to the search.

Gosh Cando, how do I thank you enough for all this amazing info you have given me. You really have been wonderful. Believe it or not but I have just made contact with an O'Malley "cousin" who is a descendant of Charles Patrick OMALLEY and Honora OBRIEN.

Here is what she gave me today:

Charles (Patrick) O'Malley likely born Co. Galway, Ireland - found in TAS as a 17yr painter convicted of theft at Mountbellow Bridge, County Galway and sent to v.D.L (Van Deimens Land presumably) for 7yrs.

First daughter Mary Ann OMALLEY born 19 Jun 1855 (not registered)  TAS
Twin sons William and Edward OMALLEY died Port Sorell TAS
dau Catherine OMALLEY born 1859 La Trobe, TAS (no baptism record found)
dau Honora OMALLEY born 6 Aug 1861 La Trobe, TAS
dau Susan OMALLEY born 16 Dec 1862 La Trobe, TAS [the "Unnamed female" on the index, reg. Port Sorell?]
dau Jane OMALLEY born 7 Aug 1865 La Trobe, TAS
son Edward OMALLEY born 11 Jun 1870 Melbourne, VIC Baptised St Patricks Cathedral 18 Dec 1871

Helena Olive WOOD nee OMALLEY died 10 Nov 1988

Apparently Edward OMALLEY [born 1870] went out to work one day after his children left home, and he never returned. He died at Morella Private Hospital, Rennie St, Coburg 21 Aug 1941 [so it matches your death index Cando]. The info on his death cert is sparse and mostly inaccurate, supplied by an authorised agent. [The cert says] under "issue" 'one male child, name and age unknown'.

End of quote.

Seems I have a new resource for this family now, so I perhaps I should mark this thread as complete, to save you more work  ;).
Thank you so much for all your efforts, everyone who helped out. Without it I wouldn't have found all this new information.

Kind regards, Janine

Yes, I found that record as well. I might have to check with my new 'friend' to see if she has a copy of his convict record already. I guess I am being a bit impatient, as usual LOL.

Thanks for that Cando.

Hi, I came across your post when searching for info about my O'Malley ancestors
My Great Grandmothers name was Mary O'Malley, she was born in Tasmania about 1855, on her death certificate her father is listed as Charles O'Malley.
Research done by an elder family member suggests that she is the daughter of Patrick Charles O'Malley & Honora O'Brien who were married in Launceston,Tasmania,1857.
Mary is the unnamed child born to them in Tasmania.
I have a copy of Honora O'Malley's death certificate, it states she was born in Shallon ,Ireland & lived in Tasmania about 2 years & then lived in Victoria about 44 years When she died in August 1900 her children were listed on her death certificate as
Mary Ann- 42yrs,
Catherine - died,
Honora- died,
Susan - 35 yrs
Edward - 27 Yrs

Edward is listed as the Informant

Honora O'Malley's residence at time of death is listed as 65 Condell St, Fitzroy, Melbourne
Possibly we are related?
