Hi,jds1949 and tressle thank you your answers. I have acertificate of transfer to Reserve on Demob. said he served with Grenadier Guards. I contacted the The regimental Head Quarters and from them I was told he served with the 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards. excuse my non military knowledge, does that mean he could not get his preference?
 Best Wishes Clive

It would appear from what you have that he did not get his preference and served with the Guards,

Hi, jds1949 and Ady, thank you for your replies, yes Ady , I recieved a excellent letter from the regimental Headquaters  wellington Barracks signed by a Major.  And if I was ever in London and would like see the History of the grenadier Guards in the Great War, I may do so.
Once again thank you for your kind replies.
