Was in town this morning, went into newspaper offices, their old issues are in Ballinamore Library on microfilm on the other side of the county.  http://www.rootschat.com/links/08hm/

There are no Higginsons in phone book.

As I said, the death notice may not even be in paper and I don't have Library Card at moment...(must get one).

The local church would have been Toomna,  if you Google Toomna Church it will give you some information. I actually have to go there to get some photos for someone but there aren't many g/stones there and the church is now in ruins due to vandalism. Can't recollect seeing Higginsons there.

Just had a look on comres  http://comres.leitrimcoco.ie/#focus   and there's 6 mentions of Higginsons mainly Drumshambo! Just click on link above and enter the name!

Thank you so much for your help.  I will take a look at the link you sent.
My mother remembers mention of a St. John's church - C of I, not RC.  Is there one in this area?

Does St. John's church have a cemetery?  Could our Higginson be there?

Well as you can see there's only those 6 snippets in newspaper, all Drumshanbo/shambo... no death notices.

There is a protestant church at St John's Lake which might be it, a very unique church which hasn't been modernized in over 100 years, very small, still has all it's original features but have never been inside it.

Yes there is a g/yard next to church, see     http://www.rip.ie/death_notices_detail.asp?NoticeID=87942

Thanks for the photos - That particular Higginson is not the branch I am looking for ... tho' it may be if I look at John Richards' siblings ....  no, must stay the course and find John!!

Must stay focused!!
