He is buried at the Ashburton Cemetery-  in same plot is Elaine SLOAN - married - died Novemeber 1941 - purchaser of plot (in 1941) is given as "Jackson SLOAN - address, Willowby".
At same cemetery there are burials for several infants (one, a Jackson SLOAN d. 1932).

I think the "Alexander Grattan SLOAN" perhaps belongs to another family ?

Seems more likely "a.g. sloan" is the "Adam Charles Gillespie  SLOAN" you've mentioned previously ?

According to Auckland's War Memorial Museum's Cenotaph database.Private James Sloan died ,Saturday 29 November 1941 aged 36 yrs,you can see the full entry here
