** COMPLETED ** Uniform Recognition Request
« on: Saturday 17 April 10 11:06 BST (UK) »
Hi there

could someone give me an idea of what regiment thus uniform this may refer to please?  It's best photo I have so hope it will be able to provide sufficient information for someone to take a good stab. [I have no idea at all sorry.]

Is there any significance to the chaps with the sticks in the front rows?

Cheers,
Lynda

There are partially-hidden sticks elsewhere, too.
The easy part is to say that they are Scottish, from the Glengarry caps.  No kilts, though, so probably a Lowland outfit.
They look very young, apart from the proud warrant officer, showing his rank and wound stripe on his left forearm and almost crowding out his officer!  There is a corporal next to him on the other side.
No medals visible.  No moustaches.
Cadets?
Others will know more about which pattern of belt, trimmings to the caps, etc.
Good luck!
A

I would venture he is Company Sargeant Major William John Beard, 13742  Royal Scots Fusiliers as a Sergeant and 46106 Highland Light Infantry as CSM. They look like cadets. One older looking man has no dicing to his cap so may be an instructor.

Lynda,

There is a Pension Record. I found it by just typing in his full name (no numbers). It's the last one.

For his Medal Index Card, Beard and 46106 in the relevant boxes, will get you there.
