Hi,

About 4 days ago an arrow pointing to 'All programmes' and a message as shown below appears when I click the 'Start button':

"Some items cannot be shown. There is not enough room to show all the items you have added to the Start menu.
To display them please use small menu items, choose a smaller number of icons or unpin some numbers"

I havn't a clue what this is all about.

To my knowledge I have made no changes ( I'm not PC clever enough) so I just cannot figure out what has initiated the message.

It doesn't appear to be affecting any workings but I'm really puzzled as to what it means and how to get rid of it.

I have Windows XP.

Any advise will be appreciated.

Thanks

Barbara.

Hi Barbara,

I get that message as well, it just means that the "Start menu" has too many items showing.

Recent Items, which is located on the right side of the Start menu, displays a list of the files that you've used recently.   To open a file from there you just click on the item.

So you just need to do some housekeeping and delete them and when the menu is full again, up will pop the message again.

Hope that helps.

Cheers
KHP :)

Hi Barbara,

When you click the start button, you should see the box that appears  on your right side, that says, my computer, documents, etc, .....now on the left should be a blank white with Internet Explorer, a line underneath, then you should have a list of menu items.

Click on those and when you see the wording "remove from list"' click on that.

What pop ups when you click the "start button"?

Cheers

Hi KHP,

You have a completely different display to me.

How did you manage to post a picture showing your Start Menu.

I don't know how to do that or I could show you how the displays differ.

Thanks for trying to help.

That is because I am on my laptop.

On the  keyboard opposite the F12 key there is a key called "Print Screen" I captured the start menu, once clicked  ....  it should be sitting in "my pictures"

this should help

Right-click the task bar (ie the one at the bottom), choose Properties,
click the Start menu tab, and click the Customize button.
In the middle or underneath in the grey bit, there's a control labeled Number of programs on Start menu. Click the Start button, count the menu items below the line, and set this value to match. Click OK, and OK, then the warning should go away ;)
