Hi
I have split this off from the burial topic to see if you get a better response.  Can you quote a census record for us?

If he was a Master Clockmaker you may find reference to him in Trade Directories.
The University of Leicester website has the link to their excellent free to search Directories.

Have you had a look on here

http://calderdale.gov.uk/wtw/index.html

use the advanced search then browse the document types

To hazard a guess I would say that there were not many shops in Southowram in the 1840's and his business premises could have been in Halifax.

Hi
Milner Bottomley is listed in Walker's Directory of the Parish of Halifax for 1845 as a clock maker. His address is given as 5, Caddy Field, which is in Southowram.

He is still alive in 1851, when he is still at Caddy Field Southowram, aged 60, with his wife Ruth, also 60. None of his three sons William (28), Joseph (22) and Matthew (18) have followed him into clockmaking. Joseph is a shoemaker, William and Matthew are dyers.
Under the 'Clock Makers' section of the directory, his address as also given as 5, Caddy Field, so it looks like that was his business premises as well as his residence.
