Looking for info about Anthony Downes born in County Clare about 1831

Married Mary Mulcahy. Came to Australia. My Great grandfather

Anthony Downes was born before civil Registration began in Ireland so you need to search church records. County Clare is one of the few counties that doesn't have records online. Clare library has some genealogical information http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/genealog.htm. Looking at the Tithe Applotments taken about 1830 & Griffith's Valuation taken in the mid 1800s there are a number of Downes families in Clare. Also you may want to consider the spelling "Downs" as there quite a number of people with that version also on both lists.

Do you have their death certs? Some Australian death records gave a lot of genealogical information. Also if they got married in Australia their father's names would be included.
