this is a tip i found elsewhere and was given by Guy

If you wish to photograph microfiche using a microfiche viewer the best way is to remove the screen of the viewer and project the image onto a white wall/door/screen and photograph that.
This avoids the pattern made by the microfiche bulb.

otherwise i would think you would need a decent macro lense on your camera,
maybe worth experimenting at home first taking photos of your scanner bed with the light on?

Cheers Les for the tip, i am sure it might help others looking to do the same as my self.
Does any one know how & where to get microfiche printed on to paper or CD cheaply?
I have some and as my reader has blown up( I don't want another one either ) i was wondering if there is a cheap way round my problem?
Migky  ;)

But can't see my local library letting me play about with there viewer.  :o

Thanks for your input and am sure it will help others trying to the same sort of thing as me.

Migky  ;)

It is possible to convert fiche to CD.  No idea of the cost, sorry! but google 'microfiche conversion' or similar and you'll find various companies who do it.
UK census content is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk  Transcriptions are my own.

My OH had some microfiche that he bought from Cheshire archives.  He didn't have a microfiche reader, so just scanned them into his PC and then enlarged them, so he could read them.    When he'd found the records he was interested in, he just copied and saved them.  It all seemed to work OK.

Depends what you're scanning as to whether that works, Lizzie. If the fiche are e.g. FHS-type indexes (typed), it should be OK. Parish register fiche though are a nightmare, even if you have a scanner that does slides - the magnification just isn't up to it  ::) (I bought one specially for the purpose and it wasn't up to the job  :'( )

Good luck.  At least you know you'll get a lot of use from a scanner, unlike a microfiche reader.
