Looks like it to me, it appears about the same width as one of the eyes on the photo does that sound reasonable given the actual size of the object?

At the time the photo was taken it may have been more reflective hence the fact that its not easy to make out the strip across the middle.

It doesn’t look the same to me. If you break the brooch into three sections, the ends look similar the centre is a different shape. The colour is different this could be to do with age. Can you tell what it’s made of? No offence, the one you found doesn’t look like un-polished silver, un polished silver turns black. The one in the photo I would say is of gold or silver. Are there any hall marks? That would give us a date of how old the brooch is.
Please scan photos at 300dpi or higher. Thank you.

Agree with still_looking.  The shape certainly looks the same although colour is different.  If it is not, it is certainly a nice find in your loft.

Thanks for the replies
I've given the broach a quick clean I think its brass  there are no markings on it
would the bar in the middle show from the distance the photographer would have been?

Sue

I can now see that it is the same shape thanks to maidmarianoops for blowing the picture up. If its brass you won’t find any markings. One thing you could do to stop it from tarnishing would be to lacquer it. That’s what I used to do with French carriage clocks many years ago as a watch/clockmaker. Constant polishing in time will remove the pattern. Old brass tends to be harder than today’s which is much soft.

In order to post you will have to re-name it. A good tip is just add a number. You can't post two files with the same name.
Please scan photos at 300dpi or higher. Thank you.
