Jack and Marion FISHWICK
« on: Wednesday 21 April 10 15:40 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out what happened to Jack Tar Fishwick and his wife Marion after they went to Australia aboard the Orama in 1926. Jack was an Australian born 1895 Ballaratt, Victoria,, Marion was born 1894 in Staffordshire, England and was convicted at the Old Bailey of Bigamy in 1919 and several robberies in 1923. In 1944 they are living at 288 Little Colliers St, Melbourne.

Marion Pauline Fishwick (or Pauline Marion) was born Lucy Mary ( or Mary Lucy) Broadhurst and at various times when by a number of combinations of these names.

Does anyone know how I can find out where and when they died and if they had any children.

Thanks
Carolyn

Carolyn death certificates in Victoria would give you the names and ages of any issue of the marriage.  You can purchase and immediately download an image of the certificate for AUD $17.50 from
https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/index-search?action=purchaseImage

You need the surname, registration number and year of death to purchase.

I wonder if they were travelling together to Australia.  They do not appear on the ships passenger list together.

Contract Ticket#588
Mr J FISHWICK  31 years, Butler, departed London on the ORAMA on 13 Nov 1926. Last country of permanent residence, England.  Country of intended residence, Australia.  Contracted to Melbourne.
Last address in UK  Loch Fyne, Pentone Hook, Laleham-Thames.

Contract Ticket#882
Mrs M FISHWICK 32 years, Housewife, departed London on the ORAMA on 13 Nov 1926.  Last country of permanent residence, England. Country of intended residence, Australia.  Contracted to Melbourne.
Last address in UK  Loch Fyne, Penton Hook, Laleham, Surrey.

May I ask where you sourced their address in 1944...and it would be 288 Little Collins Street, Melbourne. Perhaps it was from the advertisements for his business at 4th floor, 288 Little Collins Street, Melbourne in the Argus newspaper. The advertisements appeared c1938.  Jack Tar had re-married in 1940 and according to the 1943 electoral roll listing above he was living at Camberwell with his new wife.

Hi Condo

thanks so much for all that. Especially that Victoria death certificates give details of children - wish UK ones did.
I got the 1944 address from Jack's miltary records - he was in communication with the Army about lost WWI medals and that was where he wrote from.

Now all I need to find out is what happened to Marion/Pauline/Lucy  - did she die or did she & Jack divorce or did she just move on again. Or possibly she ended up in prison again - she seems to have been one of my less honest relatives.

thanks again
Carolyn
