Please find my Grandma in 1901
« on: Wednesday 21 April 10 16:59 BST (UK) »
My Grandmother was Elizabeth Mackness and she lived in Islington. My Grandfather William Mackness was away in South Africa.
She should be with their 2 children, Edith May born 1899 and William born July 1900.

Elizabeth's illegitimate son George Hamilton is living with the Nuttall family in Islington.

She may be in hidding as on William's Army records he has Edith down as next of kin. I have searched just using Christian names with no luck, I am hoping a few more pairs of eyes will find her.

cant see them on the census  :(

William's August 15th, 1900 baptism at Islington, Holy Trinity shows the address as 95, Cloudesley Road.

Edith May's was at All Saints, Battle Bridge Islington - August, 1899, address 9, Cornelia Street.

The 1901 census for Islington has over 50 Districts for the Barnsbury SubRegn District (which covers the 2 parishes shown above), so a bit of a slog ! Also, the Govt 1901 which can be searched by address only seems to show even numbers in Cloudesley Road

Unfortunately they were no longer at 95 Cloudesley Rd in 1901 - that address was occupied by a DONER couple from Manchester, a BAKER family from London, a widow Celia THEOBOLD, an Annie REILL and daughter Rose WEEDEN, and a DOVEY couple: RG13/178/107/13.

Hi,

In 1903 they had a Dorothy and the address was also given as 9, Cornelia Street but they are not at that address in 1901.

Elizabeth was born some where in Lancashire, on the 1881 census she is in Over Darwen aged 1 born Manchester and a grandaughter to Robert Hamilton. I believe her mother is Roberts daughter Mary Jane Hamilton (she used Jane).

I have not found a birth certificate for Elizabeth as a Hamilton or Nuttall.

Mary Jane married John Nuttall in 1883 and moved to Islington on the 1891 census Elizabeth is with John and Jane Nuttall as daughter born Manchester.

The next child was Albert in 1904 at Cumberland St and the next Robert in 1906 was back again at 95 Cloudesly Rd. Robert mothers as well as the rest of the children the mothers maiden name was Nuttall.

I have been told that Elizabeth and her Mother went to Court over a mirror after this Elizabeth changed her maiden name.

I have searched most of the Islington Census's with no luck.
