Ancestry 1851 has gone haywire
« on: Wednesday 21 April 10 22:52 BST (UK) »
Is anybody else having problems searching the 1851 on Ancestry?  All other censuses are fine.  The example below is an actual search I have just tried.

Search county selected is Kent

Christian name George - no surname

Gender - male

Birth county - Kent - no district

Birthyear 1848 +-1yrs

I then get 2,146 "matches" starting with EDWIN Abbey b Bradford Yorkshire followed by JAMES Pearman Abbott b Ipswich Suffolk

The "matches" include females and include birthyears from 1811 onwards

Having similar problems - was beating myself up thinking I was having a senior moment - but having tried a few more searches agree that something's screwed up in the Ancestry system.......

I took out a sub in January and I've hardly used it. The same sort of thing and also census images not matching the request e.g. looking for Watkins... and I get everything but! It's a nuisance and very frustrating.

Hi ozlady

I suspect you are using Ancestry's dreadful "new" search facility

I am sending you a pm which (hopefully) will sort it out for you
