Elizabeth from Tilty, born c1812...
« on: Saturday 24 April 10 16:29 BST (UK) »
...married David Adcock, also born c1812 in Etwall, Derbyshire.  I'm hoping to trace her family name (and family, if possible).  I'm assuming that they were married in Essex, because their first child (Sarah) was born c1831 in Great Easton.

Further children were born in Burton-on-Trent (Ann, c1833) and Little Over (Henry, c1834).  By 1841 they were in Leicester, where they appear to have settled. They all appear in the 1851 census, which is my only source for the Essex connection so far.  I can't confirm the parents anywhere after that.

I'd be grateful if anyone can help me with more detail on Elizabeth.

Many thanks, Peter

Do you think the 1851 pob is supposed to read Tilbury? Looks like Tilby was written (I have never heard of a Tilty!)

1861 doesnt help RG9 2297 84 10 - ELizabeth is now widowed and  living with son Henry and his wife and children, but her place of birth is just given as 'Essex'
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk

Hi!  Thanks for the quick response.  I found Tilty by looking on Multimap, which showed it as about a mile NW of Great Easton, and about three miles NE of Stansted.  The fact that it was so close to the eldest child's birthplace gave me confidence it was authentic.

I may be entirely wrong!

Talk about co-oincidences!

Having replied to you saying I hadnt heard of Tilty, the next thing I did was to look up something in Essex for someone else, and what did I come across in passing but a reference to Tilty! So I rushed back here to apologise, but you had got there first.

Seems that some Tilty PR's are online
http://seax.essexcc.gov.uk/all_results.asp?intMoving=1&intOffSet=0&intDirection=14

but they may not go late enough online for Elizabeth's birth.

Havent checked for Great Easton for the marriage - but you may be lucky!

(Well, well, still cant get over that! I've lived in Essex for 25 years, and am still learning about the area!)

Thanks to you both for the fast feedback on this request.

suffolk*sue:  thanks for the suggestion, I think their both being 16 (and no child for 3 years afterwards), and David not having an obvious connection in Cambs, makes me agree with 'very bog long shot', but thank you for trying and responding anyway

lizdb: thank you for pointing me at the Essex on-line records, this is the first time my tree has wandered into Essex!  Sadly, as you note, the Tilty births stop on-line at 1811, and the Great Easton marriages are also only on fiche.

Never mind, thanks again to both for your help.

Peter
