Hi Ev - Sorry about the delay - did not receive notification that I had a reply to query ??
Do not seem to be any further forward, did as you suggested, and had a look at the 1841 problem is the fathers name is HUGH ..dammit...

Have Just spent a small fortune on SP no David Dobbie married to a Christine/Christian anywhere in Stirlingshire.

Had a look for John Dobbie marriage only 2 popped up
1. 1822 to Catherine Gourlay
2. In 1826 to Catherine McCruerer
first one in St Ninians and second in Fintry.

Have run out of ideas on this one..do not know what to do next  ::)

Regards Patvp

I have various certificates relating to Agnes Dobbie and her descendants, from the ROBERT JARVIE and AGNES DOBBIE line.  AGNES DOBBIE was deceased at the time of her daughter’s marriage in 1861, but her daughter did name one of her children after her mother (Agnes Dobbie Gillies who was born in 1864 and died at the great age of 91 in 1953).
The Dennyloanhead old churchyard transcriptions have an Agnes Dobbie (died 1845 in childbirth of Parkfoot). Sometimes the name is listed as Dobie and even Dopie.

Hi ev, I am quite new here tracing McLeans from AU and NZ, where Helen McLean (Dobbie) ended up. I have her parents on NZ death register as Hugh Dobbie and Christina Dobbie formerly Sinclair of  Touch, Stirling, Scotland

Can you tell me how you could see that the Christina on 1941 was nee Sinclair? Also where info about Jean Waters from ? I am so far at a loss outside of ANZ BDMs

thanks, Russell

hi Russell

welcome to rootschat  :)

it's a while since i looked at this and it's not my tree
but i think i looked up the children(on the IGI) to hugh dobbie and christian
sinclair then compared the names with what's on the 1841 census
william 18 seems the first child of hugh and christian

i then had a look at mary 33 and george 40 , and found there are births on
the IGI that could match the children of hugh dobbie and jean waters

given the age difference between hugh and christian , and the fact that all
the children were baptised in the same area i think there must be a good
chance that this was a second marriage for hugh  :-\

Thanks ev. I wasn't really considering IGI... a great step forward (or backward) for me.
