thank you both so much for these last two suggestions - I had been going round and round and not come up with anything.  I do appreicate all the effort everyone has put into this, I will post a message if I have been able to resolve it.

The only two death record that I have found so far for a John Knight in St. Dunstans, Stepney are

21.1.1818 aged 79 and 17.7.1818 aged 66 if he was one of these, there was an enormous age gap between him and Susannah so I am not at all sure  :-\
