Help needed with Annie Mary Marchant
« on: Tuesday 27 April 10 21:19 BST (UK) »
Annie Mary Marchant was my Gt Grandmother, she married Henry George White on 21.12.1895 in Weston Patrick, Hampshire. From their marriage certificate it shows Henry to be 31 and Annie 33. Annie's father is recorded as being Henry Marchant MRCVS, at the time of their marriage it shows Annie living in St Marys, Brighton.
No relatives are alive who can remember Annie or even when she died.
Henry and Annie had 5 children, the youngest being Isabel Bertha White born in 1913, if Annie's age is correct on the marriage certificate it makes her almost 50 when she had Isabel.
Based on the age recorded in 1895 it gives a birth year of 1862/63, one record for March 1863 gives her father as William and the sub district as St Peter, Brighton, I don't believe this is her.
Help needed with census research.

Hi,

According to the 1901 census Annie was 39 and born in Tottenham Middlesex.  Do you have this information or would you like me to post it?

Regards,
Mo

Was her father listed as deceased on the certificate? Was Annie listed as spinster or had she been married before?

Having a child at 50 is not unheard of, just less frequent!

Annie was recorded as being a spinster at her wedding, it doesnt say Henry was deceased.
On another side of my family history research I have a 3xGt Grandmother having her 14th child at 51 in 1857!

I dont have the census stuff for 1901, I would appreciate it if you posted it on the site.

Richard

Richard do you have any census at all? (no point us looking up years you already have)

I have started looking for the 1871 and can see only one possibility at the moment but would need to spend more time  looking to confirm it's her. If it is it's been transcribed as Mary N when the census is clearly Mary A. Living with grandparents in All Hallows parish of Tottenham.

Sorry, I dont have any census data at all, I have just decided to go back to this line and have a fresh look.
The marriage certificate clearly shows Annie Mary Marchant as being 33 at the time of her marriage, it is actually one of the clearest entries I have seen.
Can you see anything that may lead to her mother being Maria? It is a name I have heard of, dont know where but it is in the dim distant past when my grandparents were both alive.

I'm struggling to find Annie with a father Henry who is a vet. Can find possible Annie's with father Henry but he's either a bricklayer or labourer.

I'm tired so I think it's time for me to duck out and say 'night.

Good luck
